Yin Metal (辛) — The Polished Jewel
In Korean Saju (사주, the Four Pillars), your Day Master is the heavenly stem of the day you were born — the character that stands for "you" in your chart. 辛 is pronounced Sin in Korean (신), and it is the yin form of Metal.
Yin Metal is the jewel, the fine blade and the polished ornament: precise, refined and valuable. If your Day Master is 辛, the traditional reading is someone with a sharp eye for quality, a quiet sense of style and high standards. You often shine brightest after pressure has shaped you.
Natural strengths
- An eye for quality, beauty and detail
- High standards in your work
- Elegance and composure in public
- Inner resilience that grows through difficulty
Blind spots
A jewel can feel it must always look perfect. Yin Metal may be self-critical, sensitive to criticism or slow to ask for help. The traditional advice is to value your own worth even before others notice it, and to let people see your unpolished side.
Work and money
辛 often suits refined, detail-heavy work: design, finance, editing, medicine, beauty, jewellery and specialist professions. Money tends to follow reputation and expertise.
Love and friendship
In love you are thoughtful and loyal, and you appreciate care in small gestures. You flourish with a partner who values you for who you are, not only how things look.
Metal and the other elements
Saju reads relationships through the Five Elements' generating and controlling cycles. For a Yin Metal Day Master:
- Same element (Metal): people and moments that feel familiar — easy understanding, and sometimes friendly competition.
- Earth feeds Metal: in the traditional generating cycle, Earth supports you. People strong in Earth often feel like mentors or a safe harbour.
- Metal feeds Water: you naturally support Water — this is where your effort turns into output, creativity and care.
- Metal shapes Wood: in the controlling cycle you manage Wood; traditionally this relates to resources, money and practical goals.
- Fire shapes Metal: Fire challenges you — the friction that builds structure, discipline and recognition when there is respect.
Traditional qualities of Metal are clarity, standards and decisiveness; its traditional colours are white and silver.
Yin, yang and the seasons
Yin stems are traditionally read as inward and refining: they adapt, connect and work through subtlety rather than force. That is why 辛 and its yang sibling share the element Metal but feel quite different in daily life.
Saju also looks at when you were born. Metal is traditionally strongest for people born in autumn, when its season is in charge, and it asks for more support for those born in summer. So two people with the same 辛 Day Master can read very differently: one may need to soften and share their Metal, the other to protect and feed it. Your month pillar shows which side you are on — it is one of the first things a Korean reader checks.
Keeping your balance
Practise self-kindness and let 'good enough' be good enough sometimes. Clean, uncluttered spaces and a little Water (rest, reflection) are classic supports for 辛.
For a Yin Metal Day Master, Fire refines Metal, so rules, roles and expectations may come forward — discipline that can polish your reputation.
Your Day Master depends on your exact birth date — and sometimes your birth time and city, because a day changes at midnight true solar time. Draw your free chart in about 30 seconds to see your four pillars, your Day Master and your Five Elements.
