Yang Metal (庚) — The Raw Steel
In Korean Saju (사주, the Four Pillars), your Day Master is the heavenly stem of the day you were born — the character that stands for "you" in your chart. 庚 is pronounced Gyeong in Korean (경), and it is the yang form of Metal.
Yang Metal is raw steel, the axe and the sword: strong, direct and made stronger by challenge. If your Day Master is 庚, tradition describes you as brave, decisive and loyal to what you think is right. You prefer action to talk and you rarely back away from a hard task.
Natural strengths
- Courage and decisiveness
- Loyalty to friends, teams and principles
- Resilience — pressure tends to sharpen you
- A strong sense of fairness and justice
Blind spots
Steel can cut as well as protect. Yang Metal may be blunt, impatient or quick to judge, and can find it hard to show softer feelings. The traditional advice is to let your edge serve the people you care about, and to choose your battles.
Work and money
庚 often does well in roles that reward decisiveness: engineering, law, security, sport, operations, entrepreneurship and crisis work. Money can come through bold moves; a simple rule-based plan helps you keep it.
Love and friendship
In relationships you are protective and loyal, and you show love through action. You value honesty; a partner who can be gentle with you helps you relax your guard.
Metal and the other elements
Saju reads relationships through the Five Elements' generating and controlling cycles. For a Yang Metal Day Master:
- Same element (Metal): people and moments that feel familiar — easy understanding, and sometimes friendly competition.
- Earth feeds Metal: in the traditional generating cycle, Earth supports you. People strong in Earth often feel like mentors or a safe harbour.
- Metal feeds Water: you naturally support Water — this is where your effort turns into output, creativity and care.
- Metal shapes Wood: in the controlling cycle you manage Wood; traditionally this relates to resources, money and practical goals.
- Fire shapes Metal: Fire challenges you — the friction that builds structure, discipline and recognition when there is respect.
Traditional qualities of Metal are clarity, standards and decisiveness; its traditional colours are white and silver.
Yin, yang and the seasons
Yang stems are traditionally read as outward and initiating: they start things, take up space and act on the world directly. That is why 庚 and its yin sibling share the element Metal but feel quite different in daily life.
Saju also looks at when you were born. Metal is traditionally strongest for people born in autumn, when its season is in charge, and it asks for more support for those born in summer. So two people with the same 庚 Day Master can read very differently: one may need to soften and share their Metal, the other to protect and feed it. Your month pillar shows which side you are on — it is one of the first things a Korean reader checks.
Keeping your balance
Make space for softness: music, art, slow conversations. Traditionally, a touch of Water — reflection, rest, time near water — helps Metal flow rather than clash.
For a Yang Metal Day Master, Fire shapes Metal, so it can feel like pressure that builds structure — responsibility, deadlines, recognition.
Your Day Master depends on your exact birth date — and sometimes your birth time and city, because a day changes at midnight true solar time. Draw your free chart in about 30 seconds to see your four pillars, your Day Master and your Five Elements.
